Project 2 Choice 1
The Arcane trailer showcases vivid, beautiful animation that would make any artist's jaw drop to the floor. The choice to do animation was a smart one. They could have easily made this show live-action, but it would’ve lost that oomph that the animation gives this show.
Take it from me, animation takes a long, long, long, long, time. An average 90 min animated movie can take up to 4-7 years. Live action is significantly lower than that. I believe Arcane took about 6 years to make. As beautiful as animation can be making one is a huge risk. It takes so long to make you risk losing all that money it took to make. So it was a bold choice to make it animated, but I think it was the right one. Animation is very stylized, and there are many different stylistic choices you can make that make it visually appealing. They also didn’t have to make the animation look good or smooth. They could have put a little effort into the animation, making it go quicker, but it looks like crap. It doesn’t take advantage of how you can stylize animation to make it look awesome, and this trailer shows how they took the time to make it look awesome
In the trailer after the, “Are we still sisters?”(about 2 mins in) there's a scene where Vi(The redhead with the big fist gauntlets) punches a bad guy in the face. This is a great example of how the animation and its style were so worth it. When the big gauntlets are charging up some smoke comes out.
That smoke wasn’t in 3D it was 2D. When Vi was punching that bad guy, motion lines appeared, used in animation to show speed.
That was also in 2D. The animation mixes 3D models, and adds texture, like that smoke in 2D. This gives the animation so much more visual appeal, and it makes the show so worth watching because it’s like you’re watching art, and you couldn’t achieve this with Live action. You could get it pretty close, but utilizing animation to its fullest potential can give any film top notches in my book
