Project 2 Choice 2

Another choice the creators used to bring all the artists to the yard(and they're like it’s better than yours…sorry) was their use of colors. Specifically their uses of bright, neon colors. The colors in the trailer are very dark and gritty. Even when it was showcasing the city of Piltover ( which is the richer city above ground in the sunlight).

The colors are desaturated for the most part giving it a very depressing feeling which for those who watched the show is very accurate. Then. Boom! These bright neon colors are everywhere! Neon colors pop a lot more than other colors, but because the trailer typically is desaturated with its colors, the neon pops even more. Your eye is brought to the colors because of that high contrast, and it totally works.

Take this scene in the trailer for example(about 30 seconds in)   This entire scene is dark. It has a few bright colors here and there, but for the most part, it's super dark. The sign on the other hand is a bright neon green which contrasts with the dark background. Because of this contrast, your eye(pun intended) is immediately drawn to The Last Drop sign.

In another post, I talked about how the stunning animation in the trailer made me really want to watch the show, and this choice ties in/complements that. The contrast with the dark gritty colors and the bright neon helps make the animation and its style even more beautiful and it gives me even more of a reason to watch the show(even though I already did)

They could have just kept it super bright, and run the risk of bringing super young kids in or causing pain in your eyes, overstimulation, etc. It could have kept it all desaturated and dark but that would run the risk of people dropping the show because you can only do so much with dark and gritty and keep viewers interested( in terms of its visuals there are other factors). This trailer shows that this show has just enough of that dark grittiness to ground it in realism, but it has that pop of color to keep you visually interested which works well for this trailer in my opinion.

Here are some more examples of the amazing color used in the trailer! :)

Aren't they beautiful?
